A delegation of the SSI Bonafide Group of Unit Holders Kashmir today called on Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary, along with Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Vikramjit Singh, in the presence of MLA Anantnag West Abdul Majeed Larmi.
During the meeting, the long-pending issue of restoration of SICOP marketing assistance and procurement support for Bonafide SSI Unit Holders of Kashmir was discussed. The delegation apprised the Deputy Chief Minister of the difficulties being faced by Bonafide SSI units due to the discontinuation of effective SICOP marketing assistance. The delegation emphasised that thousands of workers and entrepreneurs are dependent on these industrial units and that restoration of institutional marketing support is essential for the survival, growth and revival of the local SSI sector.
The Deputy Chief Minister listened patiently to the delegation and passed on-the-spot directions to the Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department to extend full support and necessary intervention for the early restoration of SICOP marketing assistance to Bonafide SSI Unit Holders.
The delegation expressed its sincere gratitude to the Deputy Chief Minister for giving the matter due consideration and for taking an on-the-spot decision and assuring early action on the issue. The Bonafide SSI Unit Holders expressed hope that the assurance will translate into a formal policy decision at the earliest, thereby providing much-needed relief to genuine and bonafide SSI units across Kashmir.
The delegation also placed on record that a strong and effective marketing mechanism through SICOP can significantly strengthen local manufacturing, increase government procurement from local SSI units, protect existing employment and create new opportunities for unemployed youth.
The meeting was attended by the Administrative Council of the SSI Bonafide Group of Unit Holders Kashmir: Shabir Abdullah, Chief Coordinator; Shoaib Hakak, Vice Chief Coordinator; Showkat Sheikh, Coordinator South Bashir Ahmed Najar, Coordinator and Coordinator North besides other members.
