Srinagar, Oct 27: Truecaller has launched Truecaller Lite in India, a lightweight Android app designed to provide caller identification and spam blocking on smartphones with limited storage and memory.
Around 10 MB in size, the app is designed to install quickly and run smoothly on devices with up to 4 GB of RAM, making it suitable for users with older or entry-level smartphones.
The launch comes ahead of the festive shopping season, when users may face an increase in scam calls involving fake delivery notifications, fraudulent offers and KYC-related fraud. The company said the app aims to make caller protection accessible to users whose devices have limited storage space.
According to Truecaller, Lite is a separate, native Android application built for devices with lower memory and processing capacity. It uses the same database and detection systems as the main app and follows the same privacy standards, the company said.
The app offers caller ID, spam and fraud call blocking, call history, contacts, number search and an after-call screen displaying details of incoming and outgoing calls.
To maintain its small size and performance, Truecaller Lite excludes features such as messaging, voicemail, Family Protection and the AI assistant. The company said the app also uses less memory and data.
“Scammers don’t check what phone you have before they call, and protection should not depend on it either,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller.
He said the app was developed in response to demand from users in India who faced storage constraints or performance issues while using the main application.
Truecaller Lite is available for free on the Google Play Store in India. The app is rolling out in phases and will reach eligible Android devices over the coming weeks. It is available only on Android smartphones with up to 4 GB of RAM.
