Sopore, Jun 29: Amid the prevailing heatwave, residents of several localities in Sopore town have voiced serious concern over frequent and prolonged unscheduled power outages, saying the erratic electricity supply has severely disrupted daily life and caused immense hardship to people from all walks of life.
Residents from Takiyabal, Sheikh Sahab, Mahrajpora, Teliyan, and several adjoining areas said they have been experiencing repeated power interruptions for the past several days, with electricity remaining unavailable for long hours without any prior notice. They alleged that the unscheduled outages have become a daily occurrence, leaving households, shopkeepers, students, and patients to struggle in the sweltering summer conditions.
According to the residents, the situation has become particularly unbearable due to the ongoing heatwave, with soaring temperatures making it difficult to stay indoors without fans or other cooling appliances.
They said children, elderly citizens, and patients are the worst affected, as prolonged power cuts during both day and night have added to their discomfort.
The residents said that the irregular electricity supply has also disrupted routine household chores, affected small businesses, and hampered students preparing for examinations.
Shopkeepers dealing in perishable items also expressed concern, saying frequent outages have adversely affected their business operations.
