Srinagar, Oct 4: The Wildlife Protection Department has restricted photography, birdwatching and videography in Pampore wetlands without prior permission as thousands of migratory birds arrive for the season.
“No wildlife photography, bird-watching, or videography activity shall be undertaken in the Wetlands of Pampore without obtaining prior permission from the Wildlife Protection Department,” the Block Officer, Wetland Division, Pampore, said in a notice.
The department said unauthorised photography, drone use, approaching nesting or roosting areas, and activities causing noise or disturbance may amount to violations under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
“Teasing or disturbing migratory birds, their eggs, or their nests may also constitute an offence under the relevant provisions of the Act,” the notice said.
The department said the wetlands are an “essential part of the migratory bird corridor” and a critical habitat for protected migratory and resident species.
It acknowledged the role of photographers and birdwatchers in promoting conservation but said such activities must be carried out in a “regulated, ethical, and eco-sensitive manner.”
Visitors seeking to photograph or document wildlife have been asked to obtain prior permission and departmental guidance.
The department appealed for cooperation to minimise disturbance to migratory birds during the season.
