The celebrations, as per a statement, witnessed young athletes, coaches, trainers and local community members coming together to perform yoga sessions.

At the Khelo India Centre, Sonamarg, a special yoga session was organised amid enthusiastic participation from athletes and residents. The event, held against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayan landscape, reflected the growing popularity of Yoga among the youth and sporting community.

The statement added that in several districts, participants performed yoga on the banks of flowing rivers and streams, while at many other centres, yoga sessions were conducted under the open sky with towering mountains forming a breathtaking backdrop. The unique settings added a special dimension to the celebrations and reinforced the message of living in harmony with nature.

The observance of International Day of Yoga is aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle among athletes and the general public. Yoga has become an integral component of sports training and plays a vital role in enhancing concentration, flexibility, endurance and overall wellness.

“The Sports Council reaffirms its commitment to encouraging regular yoga practice among athletes and communities and to promote holistic health and wellness through its network of Khelo India Centres across Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement added.
