A Border Security Force (BSF) Assistant Sub-Inspector was found dead with a bullet injury at his place of posting in the Boniyar area of Baramulla district on Friday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as ASI Shiv Dutt, son of Late Shimru Singh, a resident of Shoran in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. He was around 56 years old.
Officials said Shiv Dutt was serving with the 175 Battalion BSF and was posted with E Company in Boniyar.
According to official sources, the ASI was found with a bullet injury at the camp. Preliminary information suggests that he may have died after allegedly shooting himself with his service rifle. However, the exact cause and circumstances of the incident are yet to be established.
A police team from Police Station Boniyar rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.
