Srinagar, Oct 18: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Kashmir Chapter, has condemned the reported attack on a Jammu and Kashmir-registered bus in Haryana, urging the governments of both states to ensure the safety of Kashmiri passengers and take action against those responsible.
The CAIT Kashmir expressed concern over reports that the bus was pelted with bricks, creating fear and panic among passengers. It said violence, intimidation or abuse directed at people on the basis of their place of origin was unacceptable and contrary to the principles of unity and brotherhood.
CAIT said the people of Jammu and Kashmir were equal citizens of India and deserved the same dignity, respect and protection as others. No passenger should feel unsafe while travelling, working or conducting business in any part of the country, it said.
They urged the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister to take up the matter with his Haryana counterpart and seek a fair investigation and adequate safeguards for passengers travelling between J&K and other states.
It also called on the Haryana Government and police to establish the facts, identify those involved and initiate legal action against the guilty in accordance with the law.
“Disagreements over local issues can never justify violence, threats or hostility towards innocent passengers. Every citizen has the right to travel safely and live with dignity anywhere in the country,” they said.
CAIT further urged the authorities to take preventive measures to avert similar incidents, stressing that the safety, dignity and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir must be protected.
