Srinagar, Oct 24: In a significant development for Jammu and Kashmir’s horticulture sector, Farmvision Private Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Poland-based Jankowski, an established European nursery enterprise with approximately 80 years of experience, to bring advanced European nursery technology and expertise to India.

The proposed collaboration envisages setting up a joint venture in India to produce high-quality horticultural planting material, with production expected to commence in 2027.

The MoU was signed in Poland by Ahsaan Ali Jan, Managing Director of Farmvision Private Limited, in the presence of Dutch horticultural experts and members of the Polish Nursery Association.

The partnership seeks to combine Jankowski’s experience in nursery production with Farmvision’s local expertise, infrastructure and investment in modern agricultural technology.

For J&K, where horticulture—particularly apple cultivation—is a major contributor to the regional economy, the initiative could support the transition towards high-density orchards and modern plantation systems by strengthening access to advanced planting material.

The proposed venture follows Farmvision’s experience with the logistical and operational challenges of importing planting material from European nurseries.

Transporting live plants over long distances can involve high freight costs, transportation losses, plant mortality and quarantine-related delays. Depending on the plant material and applicable phytosanitary requirements, imported plants may also require extended periods of quarantine or other regulatory procedures before they can be used commercially.

These factors can increase procurement costs, delay orchard establishment and tie up working capital for businesses dependent on imported planting material.

Through domestic production, Farmvision aims to bring European nursery expertise closer to Indian growers while reducing dependence on long-distance transportation and mitigating associated logistical challenges.

The proposed arrangement is also expected to help establish modern nursery production systems adapted to Indian operating conditions, subject to applicable plant health and regulatory requirements.

Farmvision has already invested in advanced agricultural machinery, including high-technology spraying equipment, specialised planting machinery and modern weed-management systems.

The company said these investments are intended to improve operational efficiency, precision and consistency while supporting large-scale nursery production.

The collaboration is expected to facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge and established nursery practices, helping strengthen domestic production capacity and improve access to quality planting material.
