Srinagar, Sep 20: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Sunday reviewed the prevailing security situation, counter-terrorism grid, law and order preparedness, crime scenario and overall operational readiness during a visit to Kupwara and Handwara in north Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Dr Vinod Kumar.
During his visit to District Kupwara, SSP Kupwara Al Tahir Gilani briefed the IGP on the overall security scenario and various operational aspects of the district.
The briefing covered ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence inputs, area domination measures, security arrangements at vulnerable locations, law and order preparedness and the prevailing crime situation.
The IGP also visited the Tactical Operating Base (TOB) at Dardpora, where he interacted with personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and took stock of their operational preparedness and field deployment.
Sujit Kumar appreciated the commitment, dedication and professionalism of the personnel deployed in challenging operational areas and stressed the need for maintaining a high degree of alertness, coordination and preparedness.
The IGP subsequently visited Handwara, where SSP Handwara Tahir Saleem Khan briefed him on the security and operational situation in the area.
The briefing included the prevailing security scenario, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence inputs, area domination measures, protection of vulnerable locations, law and order preparedness and the crime scenario.
During the review, IGP Kashmir emphasised the need to further strengthen a public-friendly approach to policing while improving crime disposal and adopting strategies suited to emerging field requirements.
He stressed the importance of maintaining operational readiness and ensuring a prompt and effective response to emerging security and law and order challenges.
Sujit Kumar also called upon police personnel to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of preparedness, particularly in areas facing operational and security challenges.
The IGP appreciated the dedication and professionalism of police personnel deployed across the two districts and exhorted all ranks to continue discharging their duties with commitment and ensure the safety and security of the public.
The visit comes as part of the security and operational review of police formations in north Kashmir, with emphasis on counter-terrorism preparedness, intelligence-based operations, area domination and effective law and order management.
