Srinagar, Jul 29: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday visited the family of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi at Lolpora in Beerwah, Budgam, to offer condolences and urged the government to provide suitable government employment to his children.
Qureshi laid down his life in the line of duty, and Mufti said his sacrifice must be honoured not only through tributes but by ensuring the welfare of his family.
She appealed to the administration to provide government jobs to his children so they could live with dignity and financial security.
“A martyr’s sacrifice must be honoured not only with tributes but by standing firmly with those he leaves behind,” Mufti said during her visit.
She was accompanied by PDP’s Beerwah in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Khan.
Earlier in the day, the PDP president visited the flash flood-affected areas of Beerwah, where she met families and traders who suffered heavy losses in the recent disaster.
Interacting with the affected shopkeepers, Mufti expressed solidarity with those who lost their livelihoods and called for immediate rehabilitation measures.
She urged the government to hand over the vacant Municipal Building to the affected traders so they could safely store whatever merchandise and belongings they had managed to salvage from the floods.
Mufti also demanded that the administration identify suitable land without delay for the construction of a new commercial complex to rehabilitate the displaced shopkeepers.
Calling for adequate compensation for the affected families, she said the government’s response must focus on restoring livelihoods rather than limiting relief to announcements.
“Relief must go beyond announcements. It must restore hope,” she said.
The PDP chief said timely rehabilitation, financial assistance and permanent infrastructure were essential to help the affected families rebuild their businesses and resume normal life.
