Police arrest 4 drug peddlers in south Kashmir, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Oct 8: Continuing its sustained drive against the drug menace, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts of south Kashmir. Contraband substances have also been recovered from their possession.

A police spokesperson said that in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, while conducting naka checking at Mattan Adda, intercepted a person identified as Umair Nabi Shah son of Gh Nabi Shah resident of Marwah, Kishtwar, presently residing at Donipawa. During search, 3 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Kulgam, a police party at a checkpoint established at Choimulla on NH intercepted a vehicle (Volkswagen Polo) bearing registration No. JK03D-7723 with two persons on board. During search, 25 bottles of Codeine, each containing 100 ml, concealed in a black bag were recovered and the accused were instantly arrested.

Meanwhile in Shopian, during routine naka checking at Nadigam Kundalan Crossing, a police party from Police Station Shopian apprehended a person under suspicious circumstances. During search 2.16 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Shreeraz Ahmad Lone son of Mohd Ramzan Lone resident of Tungdano Kulgam.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, the spokesperson said.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to combating the drug menace and taking stringent action against those involved in the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
