Srinagar, Oct 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved Rs 15 crore for the restoration of the traditional Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route.
The project will focus on restoring and upgrading the traditional route to make the pilgrimage safer and more convenient for devotees while retaining its historical and cultural character.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the restoration was aimed at preserving the heritage of the traditional route while strengthening infrastructure and improving facilities for pilgrims.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is one of Jammu and Kashmir’s major pilgrimage destinations and attracts millions of devotees from across the country and abroad every year.
The government said the project would seek to balance infrastructure development with preservation of the heritage and traditional character of important religious sites in the region.
