Jammu, Sep 28: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma on Monday disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service with immediate effect, on recommendation by DySP, DAR, DPL Kathua, following a viral video clip showing him (SPO) on naka duty demanding and accepting bribe from a truck driver.
SSP also ordered a departmental inquiry against three other officials deployed at the same naka point for dereliction of duty and for failing to report the misconduct to senior officers.
The enquiry has been entrusted to SP (Ops) Border and Kandi, Kathua, who has been asked to submit his findings along with specific recommendations at the earliest.
As per an order issued by District Police Headquarters Kathua on behalf of SSP Kathua, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) DAR, DPL Kathua vide letter number DAR/DE/26/11842-43 dated September 28, 2026 forwarded a DDR extract entered vide DDR number 45 dated September 27, 2026 of Police Station Lakhanpur.
DySP DAR submitted that on September 27, 2026, SPO Ameer-Ul-Din, along with Head Constable Dhruv Singh, of Police Station Lakhanpur and ASI Gian Chand and Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) Shamsher Singh of 19 JKAP IR were deployed for naka checking duty at truck terminal point, Lakhanpur.
Report further revealed that SHO Lakhanpur received a clip of a viral video on Whatsapp Messenger from an unknown person, in which SPO Ameer-Ul-Din was clearly seen demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 100 from an unknown truck driver while on naka duty.
“Such misconduct of the delinquent SPO is a grave violation of discipline, tarnishes the image of the department and warrants exemplary action to deter others,” DySP, DAR, DPL Kathua submitted and accordingly recommended disengagement of the delinquent SPO and initiation of departmental enquiry against the other officials deployed at the same naka point for dereliction of duty and for failing to report the misconduct to senior officers.
“Keeping in view of this, on the recommendations of DySP, DAR, Kathua and on the basis of viral video of the delinquent SPO on different social media platforms, SPO Ameer-Ul-Din, is hereby disengaged from service with immediate effect and SPO number 582/SPO-K is treated as vacant. He will deposit all the uniform articles and arms or ammunition if issued to him in Police Station Lakhanpur or DPL Store or Kot or GB Section, DPO Kathua forthwith,” SSP Kathua ordered.
“Moreover, a departmental enquiry is hereby ordered against HC Dhruv Singh, ASI Gian Chand and SgCt Shamsher Singh, No. 319 of 19 JKAP IR for dereliction of duty. The enquiry is entrusted to SP (Ops) Border and Kandi, Kathua, who will conduct the same under the provisions of Rule 357 & 359 of J&K Police Manual and submit his findings along with specific recommendations to this office at the earliest,” SSP Kathua directed.
