Srinagar, Sep 28: National Conference (NC) leader Tanvir Sadiq has taken a dig at PDP MLA Waheed Para over his remarks on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statehood resolution, questioning whether the PDP leadership would back Para’s position.
“Interesting to see the PDP quietly rediscovering ‘autonomy’ after years of selling Self-Rule and all those tall promises,” Sadiq said in a post on X, reacting to Para’s comments on the Assembly proceedings.
Sadiq said Para had exposed what he described as “serious differences within the PDP over its own agenda”, adding that the Assembly debate had consequently become more significant.
“But the real question is: will the party president stand by you—or, as usual, disown you and throw you under the bus?” he asked, apparently referring to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
Para had earlier said the Assembly’s business would be “worth watching”, pointing to eight amendments moved by NC MLAs to Omar Abdullah’s statehood resolution. He said the amendments had brought out differences over the resolution’s “language, intent and scope”.
Para himself has submitted an amendment seeking the addition of a reference to restoring Article 370 and Article 35A in their original form to the Chief Minister’s resolution.
Omar Abdullah’s resolution calls for the “immediate and urgent restoration” of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and also refers to resolutions passed by the Assembly in 2000 and 2024. The reference to the 2000 autonomy resolution has triggered protests from BJP legislators.
The Assembly is scheduled to take up the resolution for discussion on Monday, with the amendments expected to add another dimension to the debate.
