Zest with festivity marks Raksha Bandhan celebrations across Jammu

Raksha Bandhan – the festival symbolising eternal bond between the brothers and sisters, was celebrated with usual fervour and festivity across Jammu division on Friday.

Varied hues of celebrations marked the festivity that aptly reflected everywhere – the houses, markets, roof-tops, borders and the bright sky dotted by colourful kites.

Spirits transcended age-groups and varied strata of society – including the Home for Aged and Bal Ashram- as sisters tied beautiful, tastefully decorated Rakhis around the wrists of their brothers, the latter committed to their protection amid exchange of sweets and gifts.

A gala ambience pervaded the markets, mainly the confectionery, gift shops and provision stores selling attractive Rakhis – the sacred threat to be tied around the wrists. The shops trading in kites and kite threads too drew heavy crowds of youth, mainly youngsters.

At the community level, the inmates of children homes, and the old age home also celebrated the festival with zeal. Security personnel deployed at far off places shared festivity with the civilians.

Army, BSF, CRPF, Police personnel organised special events to align with the festive spirit.

The celebrations actually began a day in advance as the girl students of Viraj Bal Bhawan School, Khanpur, Nagrota on Thursday visited Police Station Nagrota and celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the police personnel, symbolising the bond of trust, protection and mutual respect between the Police and the community.

During the visit, the students were briefed about the working and functioning of the Police Station and taken on a guided tour of the premises, providing them an opportunity to understand the role and responsibilities of police personnel.

The programme concluded with the distribution of goodies among the students as a token of affection and goodwill.

Similarly, the girl students of Government Girls High School, Kana Chak, visited Police Station Kana Chak and celebrated Raksha Bandhan with police personnel.

The programme was attended by SP Rural Jammu Ravinder Singh, SDPO Akhnoor and SHO Kana Chak along with other police officers, symbolising the bond of trust, protection and mutual respect between the Police and the community.

During the programme, the girl students tied Rakhis to the police officers, expressing their affection and gratitude towards the police personnel for their commitment towards the safety and security of the community.
