New Delhi, Mar 29: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday stressed the need for accessible, affordable, and timely justice for all, while addressing the National Consultation 2026 on the Tele-Law initiative under the DISHA scheme in New Delhi. The event, organised by the Ministry of Law and Justice, focused on expanding access to legal services through technology and grassroots outreach.
Emphasising that access to justice is fundamental to democracy, the Vice President said the consultation reflected a collective resolve to ensure that justice is “not a privilege for a few but a right available to all.” Highlighting recent legal reforms, he noted that the transition to new criminal laws marks a major shift towards a more citizen-centric justice system by simplifying procedures and improving efficiency.
Radhakrishnan highlighted the transformative role of technology in governance, pointing to initiatives such as Direct Benefit Transfer and tele-medicine. He described the Tele-Law initiative as a key tool in democratising legal services, noting that pre-litigation legal advice can help resolve disputes early and reduce the burden on courts.
Stressing linguistic inclusion, he called for legal consultations in regional languages and highlighted efforts to make the Constitution of India available in multiple languages to improve accessibility and participation.
Outlining priorities, the Vice President emphasised inclusivity, quality, accountability and innovation, with a focus on last-mile delivery of legal services, especially for women, rural populations and marginalised communities.
He also commended para-legal volunteers, Common Service Centres and panel lawyers for their grassroots role in expanding access to justice, and praised the Ministry and its partners for leveraging technology to build a more inclusive legal ecosystem.
During the event, Radhakrishnan unveiled several initiatives, including the “Voice of Beneficiaries” Booklet 2025–26, documenting success stories of Tele-Law users. He also launched ‘Nyaya Setu’, an AI-powered chatbot aimed at connecting citizens with legal services, along with its mascot designed to enhance public engagement, particularly in rural and digitally underserved areas. A series of legal awareness comic books, developed in collaboration with National Law University Delhi, was also released. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and other dignitaries were present at the event.
