Bringing an end to three days of relentless search efforts, the body of 13-year-old Furqan Rafeeq Hajam, son of Mohammad Rafeeq Hajam, a resident of Wadoora Payeen in Sopore, was recovered from Nallah Pohru on Tuesday by joint rescue teams, an official said.
He said that Furqan, had accidentally drowned while taking a bath in the stream at Wadoora on Sunday, following which an extensive rescue operation was launched. The search operation continued for three consecutive days despite challenging conditions.
The body was finally retrieved through the coordinated efforts of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, MARCOS (Marine Commandos), Civil Defence personnel, and local volunteers, who remained actively engaged throughout the operation, said an official.
Official added that soon after the recovery, the body was shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. After completion of the required procedures, it was handed over to the bereaved family for the last rites.
A wave of grief swept through Wadoora Payeen as the body reached the native village. Hundreds of mourners, including relatives, neighbours, and local residents, gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased. The tragic incident left the entire village in deep sorrow, with heart-rending scenes witnessed as family members broke down in tears.
