Several locals from the Rajwar area of Handwara on Saturday staged a peaceful protest outside the BDO office at Zachaldara, raising concerns over the alleged delay in the execution of developmental works across Block Rajwar.
“Despite a substantial portion of the financial year having passed, several works under schemes including SBM, ADF, CDF and VBGRAM are yet to commence on the ground, causing distress among locals. People are waiting for basic developmental works, but the delay has caused frustration among residents,” said Javid Ahmad, a resident of Sarmarg.
“The concerned department must explain why sanctioned works have not been taken up,” he added.
“There should be a time-bound inquiry into the matter, and all pending works must be started without further delay so that people can benefit from the schemes,” said Abdul Hamid, another local from Shatigam.
The protesters alleged that the delay was adversely affecting development activities and depriving residents of benefits intended under various government schemes. They sought accountability from the concerned Rural Development Department officials and demanded an inquiry into the reasons behind the delay.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Kupwara, assured the protesters over the phone that a team would be constituted to examine the allegations and ascertain the reasons for the delay.
