MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar has expressed concern and dissatisfaction over the ongoing repair and maintenance work being carried out on the vital Bypass Bridge in Sopore, stating that the quality and pace of the work are not up to his expectations.

Kar, while taking note of the ongoing works, said the condition and importance of the bridge require proper attention and quality execution. He observed that the work presently being undertaken does not appear to be satisfactory and stressed that the concerned agency must ensure that the repair work is carried out in a proper and durable manner.

The MLA said he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities and place the issue before the appropriate forum so that necessary corrective measures are taken and the bridge is repaired according to the required standards.

The Bypass Bridge is considered a vital link for the movement of traffic in and around Sopore, and its proper maintenance is important for ensuring smooth and safe transportation. Any prolonged disruption or inadequate repair work on the bridge can cause inconvenience to commuters and affect the movement of vehicles.

Notably, the responsibility for the maintenance of the bridge lies with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The bridge has reportedly suffered damage on several occasions in the past, with concerns being raised repeatedly over its maintenance and timely repairs.

Residents have also maintained that the absence of a proper and consistent maintenance mechanism has contributed to the bridge’s deteriorating condition, with repair works often being undertaken only after the structure develops significant damage.

Kar’s intervention has once again brought the issue into focus, with people hoping that the matter will be taken up with the concerned agency at the appropriate level and that the ongoing repair work will be improved to ensure the long-term safety and functionality of the important bridge.
