India’s top-ranked golfer Saptak Talwar has hailed the return of the J&K Open after several years, saying the tournament has the potential to become a major driver of golf tourism while inspiring youngsters in J&K to take up the sport.
Speaking to Greater Kashmir during the DP World PGTI’s visit to Royal Springs Golf Course, Talwar thanked the J&K Government and Tourism Department for reviving the event and expressed hope that it would become a permanent fixture on India’s professional golf calendar.
“The entire professional golf fraternity is extremely thankful to be here. Reviving the J&K Open is important not only for professional golf but also for promoting tourism and golf tourism in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Making his maiden visit to Kashmir, Talwar described the Valley as one of the most beautiful places he has experienced despite travelling extensively across India and Europe.
“The mountains here are comparable to places like Switzerland and Austria, but what sets Kashmir apart is its hospitality. That is something truly special and we hope this tournament shines a light on everything Jammu and Kashmir has to offer,” he said.
After playing his first practice round at Royal Springs Golf Course, Talwar said the venue promises to test the country’s leading professionals.
“The course is in excellent condition despite the monsoon. Hopefully the weather stays good because it will provide a great challenge over the coming days,” he said.
Talwar said he hopes the J&K Open becomes an annual stop on the DP World PGTI schedule.
“If this tournament returns every year, I will definitely circle it on my calendar. Kashmir is a place every golfer would love to visit, and I also want to experience its culture and cuisine,” he said.
Encouraging young golfers from Jammu and Kashmir, Talwar urged them to watch the country’s leading professionals in action and consider taking up the sport.
“If we can inspire even a few youngsters here to pick up golf, this tournament will have achieved something much bigger than producing a champion. I urge people to come out, support the event and discover the sport,” he said.
