Banihal, Aug 01: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained closed for traffic on Saturday morning as restoration work continued in the Ladha-Samroli stretch of Udhampur district following heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
According to the Traffic Police’s 4:00 am update, the road surface has become highly slushy, muddy and extremely slippery, making it unsafe for vehicular movement. NHAI personnel, along with Traffic Police teams and machinery, are carrying out restoration works. Commuters have been advised not to travel on NH-44 until the highway is cleared and declared safe for traffic.
With the highway remaining closed, no civilian traffic or Shri Amarnath Yatra convoy was allowed to move on NH-44 on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall continued across Ramban and Udhampur districts, including the Chenani-Nashri tunnel area, hampering restoration efforts.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the District Administration Ramban ordered the closure of all government and private schools in the district for the day. The Chief Education Officer directed all educational institutions to conduct online classes to ensure that academic activities remain uninterrupted.
“All Govt & Pvt schools in District Doda will remain closed today (01-08-2026) due to adverse weather, as per directions of District Administration. Online classes to continue as per schedule,” said the Chief Education Officer Doda, in a statement.
