VIT University has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 597th position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, improving its standing by 94 places from the previous year’s ranking of 691.
According to a statement issued by the university, the latest edition of the rankings was released by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, which evaluated more than 1,500 institutions worldwide across five key parameters — Research and Discovery, Learning Experience, Employability, International Engagement and Sustainability.
The university’s improved performance reflects its growing global academic reputation and continued emphasis on research, innovation and international engagement. Commenting on the achievement, VIT Chancellor Dr G. Viswanathan said the substantial improvement in the rankings was a matter of pride in an increasingly competitive global higher education environment.
“In an intensely competitive global environment, VIT University’s significant improvement in the QS World University Rankings is a matter of great pride,” he said. Dr Viswanathan said VIT had also performed strongly in sustainability, securing the 352nd position globally and seventh place among Indian institutions in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026.
He further noted that in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Engineering and Technology, VIT was ranked 119th globally and sixth among Indian institutions. “Through innovation in teaching and groundbreaking advancements in research, VIT aims to break into the top 200 universities worldwide,” he said.
